Hitachi C7SB2 Consumer Report

Hitachi C7SB2 Review by Todd Coon “Reader” (Florida)

Based on its price point, I had limited expectations for this saw (I also own a Festool TS55, see my review). I purchased this saw based on experience with other Hitachi products. After installing a 60 tooth blade for cutting in plywood and MDF, I was pleasantly surprised with the accuracy and consistency of cuts using a home-made straight-edge made from masonite and MDF. It is very good for cutting panels to size and also cutting 2x4s as required (a 24 tooth framing blade is supplied with the saw). Although lacking in bells and whistles and reminiscent in design of a 1960s era Skilsaw, this is not necessarily a bad thing. It is exceptionally light, no small factor if one is cutting 2x4s all day on a jobsite. A step up from the cheap circular saws sold at Sears and big-box stores, and is much smoother and better balanced; all other things being equal, it appears it will last longer as well. I have no complaints; this is the saw you take when you are cutting forms or working on a deck or need to frame out a house.

Hitachi C7SB2 Review by Steven Schiendelman (IN usa)

I had to replace my 15 year old Craftsman saw so this one looked like a good deal. I wanted to try Hitachi anyway so this was a good time to try one out. I used it to build a custom 40′ X 18′ deck. Worked great. No complaints.

Hitachi C7SB2 Review by JV “Johnny V” (Long Island, NY)

I purchased new from Amazon for $69.95 which is a good deal. However if the price is over $100 your better off getting the Dewalt for an additional $15-$20. This saw is lightweight and powerful. It is a great home owner saw for occasional use. For full time construction/carpentry use, it falls short of the Dewalt, Makita, or Portacable. The carry case does not have a place for the wrench and the rip fence, which is not a big deal, but wrapping the power cord and closing the case is a challenge. The base of the saw is very sturdy and easy to adjust, the numbers are easy to read. Overall quality and feel is about a 3 out of 5.

Hitachi C7SB2:: Description

This new circular saw combines Hitachi’s rock-solid construction with a lightweight and ergonomic design. The saw has a powerful and smooth-running 15 amp motor with a replaceable carbon brush for long life and easy maintenance. The saw’s aluminum-alloy base bevels from 0 to 55 degrees, with positive stops at 0 and 45 degrees. Depth of cut and bevel adjustments are both tool-free operations. The handle has a comfortable nonslip grip, and at only 10.1 pounds, it’s hard to find a lighter-weight saw with this much power. Professionals and serious woodworkers who prefer sidewinder-style saws will find this to be among the best of the bunch. For people who want a little more, check out Hitachi’s C7BD2 model, which is this same saw with an electric brake. –Brian Trinen
